Parking at Kona International Airport
The Kona Airport parking lot is located across the street from terminals 1 and 2 (the two main terminals) and it is available for short and long term parking and features accessible parking spaces as well as parking and charging stations for electric vehicles. Parking for up to 15 minutes is free.
The Cell Phone Waiting Lot is located a few minutes’ drive to the side north of the terminals. Vehicles may not be left unattended and there is a maximum one hour stay.
Transfers at Kona International Airport
Rental Cars – There are many car rental companies offering their services at Kona Airport, although they are all located off-airport. Once your vehicle is returned following the instructions from the rental company a courtesy shuttle will transfer travelers to the terminal.
Buses – Hele-On has two bus routes to Kona Airport from a few locations in the nearby area, including Kailua-Kona. During weekdays there are two departures going each way, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon. Some routes depart on Saturdays, but they don’t stop at all of the same stops they do on weekdays, and there is no service on Sundays.
Tickets are bought using the fare box aboard the bus upon boarding. The tickets are $2.00 for a single adult, while children under the age of 5 travel for free. A discount of $1.00 is available for certain groups with IDs valid for this purpose. Exact change is required as the fare box and the bus driver don’t have any change.
The airport bus stop is located right in front of the terminals, with easy access to both the main terminals.
Taxis – Passengers taking a taxi to Kona Airport will be dropped off on the curbside right outside the terminal of departure.
Pre-arranged Shuttles – It is possible to pre-arrange a transfer to or from Kona Airport through a shuttle company. Arrangements are made by the traveler or a representative in advance. Some hotels also offer shuttle services.
Smoking at Kona International Airport
Smoking is strictly forbidden at the airport according to State Law, and the only area where smoking is allowed is in the open air parking lot since it is also strictly forbidden to smoke within 2 feet of any doorways, ventilation ducts or windows.
Signs throughout the airport will remind visitors of the smoking prohibition.

WiFi at Kona International Airport
Kona Airport offers free WiFi to all visitors via the network called “KOA Free WiFi”. Once connected, launch a browser and select “Free Unlimited WiFi” to start your session.
Shop and Dine at Kona International Airport
There are three places to grab something small to eat and something to drink at the airport. One is located on landside, while the other two are located one in each departure hall past the security checkpoint.
Shops are located both on landside and in the departure halls, some have their opening hours adjusted to the flight schedules and are closed in between flights.
Automated External Defibrillators at Kona International Airport
Automated External Defibrillators, AEDs, are located with a walking distance of every 90 seconds throughout the public areas of the airport. They are mounted in security boxes that will alert Airport Crash/Fire/Rescue staff when they are removed. They also alert Airport Security to respond and call 911 for further medical assistance. Volunteers at the airport have been trained in how to respond to a cardiac emergency, as well as in how to use AEDs and how to perform CPR.
Persons with Disabilities at Kona International Airport
The airport, being all on ground level and with its unique pavilion design is accessible to those with mobility impairment and there are ramps where needed and on and off loading is allowed on curbside for the disabled. Vehicles are not allowed to be left unattended on curbside.
Aircrafts are boarded using portable stairs and travelers with mobility impairment require a lift service to be arranged through the airline to board.
Text telephones, TTYS, for the deaf and hard of hearing can be found in the departure areas as well as in the baggage claim areas.
Telecommunications Relay Services, TRS, is available statewide through calling 711.

The Visitor Information Program assists visitors with information. Their booths are staffed from 7.45 AM to 9 PM daily. When booths are not staffed information is available through courtesy phones, by calling +1 808 329-3423 or through sending an email to dot.air.vip@hawaii.gov.
Lost and Found at Kona International Airport
If an item is lost on an airplane, please contact the airline directly.
If an item is lost at the TSA Security Checkpoint or from a checked luggage, please contact TSA directly on +1 808 331-6930.
If an item is lost in the terminal, please contact Lost and Found on +1 808 329-5073. Lost items that are found can be located in the Security Office/Lost and Found Office that is situated in a pavilion in the northwest corner of Terminal 1. Opening hours are 6.00 AM to 12.00 AM.
